I was 12 years old when I first touched clay and immediately fell in love.
Clay is a very immediate and plastic medium that allows me to fully express my feelings and emotions. As a child, I was always taking things apart and putting them back together. My curious nature and desire to understand and explore continuously drives me toward new and inventive artwork.
When I throw on the wheel I become mesmerized, concentrating on a lump of clay, pushing it to its extreme. The pressure of life seems to diminish and be transformed from virtually nothing into a beautiful vessel.
Functionality is prime to my work, but during the last few years a shift towards non functional work has been happening coupled with a slight quirkiness.
My desire for creating led me back to clay and in 1998 I undertook a one year ceramics course at Rosny College followed by a three year TAFE course where I obtained a Certificate of Ceramics.
I am a founding member of the co-operative shop and Off Centre Gallery.
